Summary: Running out of ideas for the Brothers???
Comment: There has been a lot of talk about the change in genre of this series. My take is...the author has run out of ideas. I think she can't figure out how to create romances for the remaining characters...if her "romance" between Phury and Cormia is any indication...she has major writer's block. Phury was whiny, weak and unattractive. Cormia was definitely forgettable. Plus, she introduces two new races in this book. Angels and the Sympath's (yeah, there have been 1/2 sympaths in the previous books but they are vampires with extra abilities, not reptilian things). If she wanted to change the series so drastically she should wind it up; start a new series and keep it in the same world...several authors have done this type of thing. Then, later if she wishes to return to romances she can return to the Brothers. Right now, my advice is to read the first several books and then consider the series done. She was great until book 4, OK in 5 and well, bad, in book 6. I might check Book 7 from the Library or a used book store, but I won't buy it new. I'll just switch over to Gena Showalter'sThe Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, Book 1) series and Kresley Cole's A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1)series of romances. I enjoy them and I am currently looking forward to their next releases.

    Summary: ROMANCE? NOT!
Comment: This book is not for lovers of romantic novels. I kept reading hoping to find some romance, but no such luck. How disappointing! It seems as if Ward decided she didn't want to write romance novels anymore in the middle of a series. She has lost a big fan.

Summary: This is NOT Phury's story. Lost 2 stars for false marketing.
Comment: Believe the Publisher's Weekly review and not what the author peddles on her own website which would make you believe this is about Phury and Cormia and their love story. It's not.

It's pretty much a very large book about the war, the vampire's world, and other factions she's bringing in to generate more books (sympaths, Moors, fallen angels, sheesh!). Inside this large book about all those other things (too many IMO) there's a semi-satisfying novella length (barely) story about Phury and Cormia and a good 70% of that is about Phury and the wizard (damned annoying) and his addiction. Phury and the readers got gipped.

The rest of the story is good, I'll say that. If you like the younguns, John, Quinn, Blay and Lash, you'll love this because it's more about them than almost anyone else. You'll learn lots more about their families, some you'll love and some you'll really hate.

I'll probably continue with the series out of curiosity, but I won't expect a romance that's for sure. I feel pretty confident that those days are over. If you want hot, steamy vampire romance with the Brothers, you'll have to reread Dark Lover because this is lightyears away from that "vein". LOL!

    Summary: Phury
Comment: I am so disappointed in this story. I was a huge fan of the BDB series in the beginning and feel so let down after Z and Bella's story. I think Ward cheated her fans out of a good story for Phury with all the other plots she stuck in his book.

I didn't feel like she developed any chemistry for Cormia and Phury, their part felt rushed and unimportant in the scheme of this book and I was extremely disappointed as I loved and felt compassion for Phury in the other books.

Check this book out of the library if you want to continue with the series. It's not worth keeping.
