Customer Rating: Summary: I love this palm. Kind of slow, though. Comment: I've had about seven different palms and even an iPaq, but so far this has been my favorite. I like the fact that it has a SD slot - I have about 42mb of stuff, and that would never fit on the palm itself. I also really like the vibrating alarm thing. At my school, the teachers will take away any electronic devices that disrupt class, so the vibrate function is essential if I want to remind myself of anything during class. It's also really small compared to most handhelds.
This stuff is all great, but I think the best thing about this palm is how durable it is. My broke when I tripped in the hall, but i've abused the heck out of my m515 and you can't even tell. About a week ago, my friend got mad at me and hit me with a Geometry textbook right where my palm was in my pocket. Those things have like 700 pages and aren't exactly soft and fuzzy. I frantically pulled it out of my pocket, only to discover that it didn't even have a scratch.
Now for the bad stuff. My palm was one of those 'made in china' things, and like other customers have mentioned, the screws on the back started to come out. I figured out an easy fix, though - I borrowed a T5 driver from my dad (who's a technitian guy, so he has all those hard to find tools) and put some super - strength automotive threadlock on the screws. That problem's gone - I just hope i never have to replace the battery or anything.
Also, the m515 is kind of slow. My scripture reading program takes 1-3 minutes to search through my files and find my scripture database. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but when i'm waiting around for 1-3 minutes staring at a blank screen, it seems like years.
I can live with that, though. I love being able to write down my homework on something that doesn't use paper. Plus, I can set alarms in Diddlebug for my homework and then just completely forget about it until after school.
Well, that's probably enough. I highly reccomend this palm to anyone interested in something that will last a long time and organize your life. Good luck! Customer Rating: Summary: don't trust it to not crash before your next hotsync Comment: I have been using this for years and have found that I can never trust it to keep any new info. Taking it on the road and relying on it to not crash is prohibitivly risky. I stripped out all 3rd party software including avant go and only use the bare basic calendar, phonelist and notes and still find it crashes WAY too frequently, needing a reset that wipes out everything in its memory untill my next hot sync. Much as I like the functionality that it was designed for, I'm sick of this piece of crap and am searching hard for a reliable PDA.
Hey Palm! How about making a PDA that is reliable and comes with good free tech support for two years (i.e. try not to put your customers on hold forever or charge them excessive fees to fix your unreliable equipment). If any of your competitors do it first I have plenty of money to throw down.
