Product Description
On her second album, Nelly Furtado takes a hard left turn. The colorful but incomplete fusion of her debut, Whoa, Nelly!, gives way on the tellingly titled Folklore to an approach that lets in some acoustic sounds that take the music in an entirely different, richer direction. At times sounding like a dead ringer for singer-writer Sam Phillips (whose work colors each episode of the TV series "Gilmore Girls"), Furtado aims for more rock-oriented ground without losing the Brazilian influences that are so much a part of her identity. Her voice and tunes are strong, and both words and music paint a young woman still very much in movement, change, flux. It’s an intriguing sound, and one that thoughtful listeners will cherish. --Rickey Wright

    Summary: Carry on, Nelly!
Comment: "Folklore" has been with me for 4.5 years, and I still listen to this album from start to finish. Some tracks are weaker than others, but all of them flow thematically and beautifully. This is Nelly Furtado's most reflective, wise, and mellow album. I'm in the minority, but I have and love all three of her albums for different reasons when I'm in different moods, making Furtado one of my favorite artists for her versatility.

For "Folklore" alone, this is my favorite. Whereas "Whoa, Nelly!" was raw and incomplete that showed her potential and "Loose" is polished with slick dance moves, "Folklore" is somewhere in between. It's got the sort of raw emotions and aching melancholia (Try, The Grass is Green, Picture Perfect); upbeat, group-friendly, kickass beats (Forca); and defiant, in-your-face anthems (One-Trick Pony, Powerless, Explode). What I can directly relate, and what I love most about the album, are the roots that she connects to (Powerless, Saturdays, Island of Wonder) from her parents' home country of Portugal to hers of Canada and the more theoretical kind in everybody.

I feel like if Furtado switched the order of her second and third album, Folklore would receive more accolade then it has right now and would have received more publicity. No matter; this gem is sure to win some more fans who wish to see Furtado's more reflective and intuitive side. Forca!

    Summary: Amazing Album!
Comment: I first discovered Nelly Furtado with her single "I'm Like a Bird" but I didn't know that was her who sang that song... Well flash forward to 2007 when I first heard her song "Say It Right". I definitely fell in love with this song so I looked it up and got Loose. I then realized that she had made two previous albums and got them too, and that was when I realized that she sang "I'm Like a Bird".

Anyway, Folklore has to be her best album. It has so much meaning in the lyrics and her style is definitely something unique and amazing. I can say now that since I have heard her older work, that her older style is definitely her best. If you like her newer style a lot, you will probably not like her older style as they are very different.

Summary: Favorite album of all time
Comment: Let me begin by saying...if you are a new fan of Nelly[Loose era and beyond] then this may not be what you want. On the other hand if you loved Whoa Nelly and want more of Nelly's collection of appropriately placed words and phrases then this is your new lover. Slow, mellow and ballad-like. Nelly showcases her story-telling abilities here and if you really sit down and listen to these songs you'll grow to love them. Picture Perfect[favorite], Build You Up and Childhood Dreams are among my most played on this album. My favortie album ever so far. I could go on for days probably, but i'll stop now. Haha
