For children ages 2 to 6 who are too young for oral thermometers, this underarm model works accurately to within +/– 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit. The unique ComfortDisc design comprises two round flat disks turned at an angle to each other, one with a partial metal loop that snuggles under the arm in what’s known as the hotspot, and one that features an on/off button and the easy-to-read LCD display. After four to five minutes the thermometer beeps, signaling that the temperature reading is completed. In order to track the course of a fever, the memory recall function lets you compare the child’s current temperature with the previous reading. Waterproof, the thermometer cleans with soap and water or rubbing alcohol, while soft finger-grips on the sides offer a secure grip. Customer Rating: Summary: Incredibly convenient Comment: I LOVE this thermometer. I have five children, and don't have to worry about sterilizing the thermometer between uses. It's so much easier to get a temperature while hugging and rocking a sick baby than with a rectal thermomter!
Tnis is my favorite baby gift, too. Even if the family has other children, they don't have THIS!
Customer Rating: Summary: Do NOT buy this!!!! Comment: I am a daycare provider and I could tell one my the kids was sick. I took her temp it showed 101 I knew that could not have been right, she felt much hotter. Her mom came within 5 minutes and took her straight to the dr. Her temp was 105!!! It was WAY off! I tried to also use it on my own kids and it does not read accurately either. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
Customer Rating: Summary: My Doctor Liked It Comment: I read some of the negative reviews and I am very surprised. It may not be the fastest one on the market. My child's doctor will not take a reading from an ear thermometer even though they are faster and easier. I brought this to the doctor and the hospital with my son and both the doctor and the hospital liked it a lot. I am very happy with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Accurate Comment: This thermometer is not accurate. In consecutive readings it can vary by as much as a degree and a half. It is also not clear if you have to add a degree to the reading to get the oral equivalent (Vicks says on the thermometer that armpit readings are generally 1 degree lower than oral and 2 degrees lower than anal readings, but when we tested our son's armpit reading with this termomether against an anal reading they were the same. So go figure.)
All in all I would not rely on this product. We're going to toss it and buy an ear thermometer.
Customer Rating: Summary: Takes too long Comment: I bought this in the store and the packaging said 60 second readings. The amazon description does state 4 to 5 minutes and that is more like it. When your baby is sick the last thing you want to do is hold him still for 5 minutes watching a readout that basically tells you just how sick he really is! Still looking for another type. We have the ear kind but those are very inaccurate and hurt their little ears.
