Product Description
Dustin Hoffman is a 'triumph (People) in an Oscar(r)-winning* role, and Tom Cruiseis 'terrific (ABC Radio) in a film that's fascinating, touching and full of smart surprises (Newsweek)! Charlie Babbitt (Cruise) has just discovered he has an autistic brother named Raymond (Hoffman) and is now taking him on the ride of his life. Or is it the other way around? From his refusal to drive on major highways to a four minutes to Wapner meltdown at an Oklahoma farmhouse, Raymond first pushes hot-headed Charlie to the limits of his patience and then pulls him completely out of his self-centered world! But what began as an unsentimental journey for the Babbitt brothers becomes much more than the distance between two placesit's a connection between two vastly different people and a poignant, profound and powerful film (Joel Siegel, ABC-TV)! *1988: Actor

    Summary: Wonderful movie
Comment: Barry Levinson has proven again what a fine director he is.

RAIN MAN delivers quite a punch as a human drama and sort of a buddy picture, with some humorous moments. It is deeply felt.

Tom Cruise is excellent in this movie. Dustin Hoffman is great too.

I would definitely recommend this one.

Summary: Cruise should have won an Oscar
Comment: Tom Cruise should have won an Oscar for his little brother character to the autistic older brother Dustin Hoffman.

Summary: 2.5 stars out of 4
    Comment: The Bottom Line:

A fairly middling film lifted out of its mediocrity only by the star power generated by Tom Cruise and a very good Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man is too long, too slow, and too uninteresting to be considered a good movie, much less a classic.

Summary: Great Movie With A Decent Depiction Of A Person With A Disability
Comment: RAIN MAN is an excellent film that came out in 1988 when autism was relatively unknown. Though no one person on the autism spectrum is likely to exhibit all the traits Raymond Babbitt does Dustin Hoffman's portrayal of him is humane and relatively accurate. Tom Cruise is also excellent as Raymond's handsome self absorbed brother, Charlie, and I had almost forgotten what an appealing actor Cruise was as a young man. The plot is not too realistic but the movie is so well acted and the setting as the two men drive from Cincinnati to LA so well realized that it is difficult not to be absorbed in this good hearted film with a message.
