Product Description
The GE MXRC SmartWater Refrigerator filter ONLY fits older GE, Hotpoint, and Kenmore refrigerators that have the metal Water by Culligan type filter, i.e. - FXRC, FXRT, MXRC, HXRT, WR97X10006, or Kenmore part number 46-9905. Most customers prefer to switch to the newer GE GWF filter and adapter because it is less expensive and it filters more impurities from the water. However the GWF is a little taller than the MXRC, so if your top shelf is set high in the fridge, you may want to order the MXRC filter. It improves the taste and odor of the water and removes the following impurities: Cysts, Particulates (Class I), Turbidity, Lead, and Chlorine (Class I). It Does Not Remove Flouride. GE recommends that you replace the filter every 6 months if your refrigerator is not equipped with a filter status indicator light OR if your refrigerator has a filter status light, the filter should be changed when the light comes on or after one year, whichever comes first OR if the refrigerator has not been used for more than two weeks (for instance, during a move) OR if you notice a decrease in the flow of water or objectionable tastes in the water or ice.
