Customer Rating: Summary: Every bit helps Comment: I have been using the Smart Strip for about 6 months now. I was given the unit by the inventor. He told me that Even if it is manufactured in China (like so much else we buy) he had personally inspected the factory and was confident that the working conditions and environmental safety standards were good.
I have connected my PC, external hard drive, 2 monitors, speakers, USB hub and camera dock to the Smart Strip. Everything shuts down smoothly. The only peripheral that does not automatically come back on when I turn on my PC is the external hard drive, but I feel that is a small penalty to pay for the savings on both power and heat-generation from the vampire devices. For my remaining bank of device chargers - for phone, ipod, headset etc. - I have them on a power strip that I can easily reach to turn off when nothing is connected. With a small bit of reorganization of your devices, you can make a great difference to your energy consumption. A great idea.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product - But caution if intend to use will a Dell laptop Comment: Check the manufacturer's website if you intend to use this with a Dell laptop as your "control" device. It does not work with certain laptop models. It worked beautifully with one of my laptops, but not with the other.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy to use, one problem i had. Comment: It was easy enough to use, does what it says and shuts off the electricity to your devices when you power them off. One thing though, is the lights on the power strip are always on. Does that power usage outweigh the power saved by using this smart switch? Has anyone done the calculation to see how much electricity is saved? Or how many devices you have to plug into it in order to off set how much is used by the power strip?
