Summary: It just gets worse and worse.
Comment: I've bought upgrades for MS Streets & Trips faithfully. No longer. It is losing functionality instead of getting better. For example, in the 2004 release you could actually read the speed, altitude, information. In the 2007 version, you have to read print this size while trying to drive down the road. And the panel takes up a huge part of the screen. 2004 was definitely superior. Now, why would a programmer do this? One would think they'd want to make it easier to use, not less.
I use my S&T to travel remote roads to fishing places. It is really built bass ackwards for this. You can see rivers and lakes on the maps when they are at highway map scale (12 miles to the inch). But as you get closer, and want to zoom in, the rivers and lakes disappear. Makes one wonder where they hired their cartographers? Or perhaps that is the problem; do they have any on staff?
The same errors perpetrate from upgrade to upgrade. I have found places on the highways of Canada and Alaska where the road is 4 to 6 miles away from where S&T shows it. And it never gets fixed.
The only reason I still use S&T is because it does include Canada and Mexico -- after a fashion. It's competitors don't. But don't expect to be able to search for places in Canada or Mexico. Most of them are not in their database. For example, the Woodall's campgrounds in Canada are almost all unlisted, despite Microsoft's claim that all are listed.
Too bad Microsoft is content with this product. It is okay for freeway travelers, and for most city streets. But it is sorely lacking for the rest of our vast country.
