Summary: Elvis - That's the Way It Is
Comment: The remade That's the Way It Is, using lots of footage shot for the original but unused at the time, is a fantastic experience, which shows Elvis at his peak. He looks and sounds fabulous.
The documentary begins with a riveting concert excerpt, then takes us back to preparations, first in Los Angeles (July 1970) and then Las Vegas (August).
The excitement builds as rehearsals take place, and the International Hotel's main showroom is readied for the big opening. During all of this, we hear a wide range of great music and get to share the interaction between Elvis and his support musicians and vocalists.
Then, the performance itself - a stunning, mesmerising tour de force which showcases not only the man's great talent but his charm and charisma. This is clearly shown in the faces and reactions of the audience, especially when Elvis leaves the stage and walks around the aisles, obviously enjoying himself. Indeed, his sense of fun runs like a thread throughout the movie and helps make it a wonderfully complete experience.
That's the Way It Is should not be missed.
