Summary: Falls short.....
Comment: Pros-
The specs on this phone are great. Different feature settings for global or handset is a nice touch. The set does just about everything you could ask for.
Cons-
Call quality is average, answering system sounds muffled, intermittent issue with handsets not registering with the base.
There are alot of phone choices, keep looking.

Summary: Going downhill with the TRU9585
Comment: The TRU9585 appears to be a couple steps backward for Uniden.
1) The answering machine audio quality is horrible. The caller sounds like their head's in a bucket. My last Uniden, the CLX485, had the best audio I've ever heard for an answering machine. I'm starting to really regret getting rid of it.
2) The receiver volume on the handset is also poor. When talking to a caller the other night, I had to max it out to get a decent level. (I've listened to a lot of loud music, but I'm not THAT hard of hearing yet.)
3) Selection of ring tones is poor. Uniden selected about 7 or 8 from the same set of irritating noises used in the CLX485 and DCT646 line. (at least the CLX485 let you record your own) Why is it so difficult for phone makers to come up with ringers that don't grate on the nerves? Even a recorded version of the old-style bell ringer would be nice. (that was available on a cheap AT&T 2.4 a few years ago, but not since)
On the positive side, the outgoing voice quality appears to be fairly good, though it has the same kind of "huffiness" that 5.8Ghz seems cursed with, as I noticed this both in other reviews of 5.8 phones and in an AT&T 5.8 that I recently tried. Also, the handset seems to be pretty nice ergonomically. Lastly, the receiving audo quality on the base speakerphone sounds pretty decent, though I haven't tried to talk to anyone on it.
I really should've kept the CLX485.
